Paul Bourgeois, Fire Chief

Paul Bourgeois brings to the Apache Junction Fire District an abundantly dynamic fire service career.  He is a 20-year veteran of the Mesa (AZ) Fire & Medical Department (MFMD).  He has previously served as a Shift Commander and East Deputy for the Valley-wide Automatic-Aid system, Deputy Chief of the Fire Personnel, Health and Safety Division, the Fire Personnel Human Resources Captain and Department Safety Officer.  In 2011, while on special assignment, Chief Bourgeois authored the MFMD’s five-year strategic plan.  Chief Bourgeois' expertise will drive the Apache Junction Fire District to achieve our goals in becoming the premier Fire District in Arizona.

Chief Bourgeois presently serves on the Board of Directors of the Arizona Fire Chief’s Association and is the State Coordinator of the National Fallen Firefighter’s Foundations Arizona L.A.S.T. Team.  He is a long time instructor at the East Valley Leadership Academy and is the current Coordinator of Mesa’s CISM/Peer Support Team.  Chief Bourgeois served several years as a Fire Science and E.M.T. Instructor at Mesa Community College and is the former Chair of the Arizona Fire Chief’s Associations Safety, Health & Survival Section. 

Chief Bourgeois has a B.S. in Public Safety Administration, an A.A.S. in Fire Science, and is currently completing an M.S. in Organizational Leadership.  He is a member of the International Association of Fire Chief’s and the Fire Department Safety Officer’s Association.
